Exclusive Kijiyama kokeshi made by Takano Yohachi (1907-1994)

A slender and elegant Kijiyama kokeshi doll by Takano Yohachi, featuring an elongated body and a delicately painted face with closed eyes. The figure wears a kimono in warm red and earthy tones, adorned with fine floral (blossom) motifs and graceful brushwork. The decoration reflects Yohachi’s background in painting and yuzen textile design, characteristic of his refined, colorful style inspired by nature and feminine elegance.

Takano Yohachi was born in Nou town in Niigata prefecture and he has loved painting since he was a child. Later he moved to Tokyo, During these years he also mastered the art of Yuzen dyeing which is traditionally used for kimono. After the war he settled in Yuzawa town where he started showing interest in traditional kokeshi dolls and woodworking.
