Exclusive Vintage Gumma Kokeshi by Sansaku Sekiguchi (1925-2018)

This vintage creative kokeshi doll, crafted by the renowned artisan Sansaku Sekiguchi, features a beautifully rounded, chubby body with a rich dark purple or plum finish., the doll is characterized by its sweet, serene facial expression with closed, upturned eyes and a delicate red mouth framed by two charming pigtails secured with orange ties. Its main focal point is the intricate, textured floral pattern meticulously carved and painted onto the front of the body, showcasing a vibrant blend of red, green, and gold tones that beautifully contrast against the dark wood.

Sekiguchi Sansaku was born in 1925. He is most defenitly the most renowned kokeshi master and the only artisan who has been certified by the Japanese government as “Master of Creative Kokeshi”. He has his own museum in his birth city of Shibukawa. nd it’s being managed by his children. who are all kokeshi artists as well. He has won the prestigious prime minister award three times for his amazing and unique kokeshi dolls.
