Elegant Vintage Sosaku kokeshi

This is a charming example of a Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi doll, which differs from traditional styles by incorporating more artistic freedom in shape and attire.

Physical Features

• Head: The doll features a round, natural wood head with a smooth finish. Her facial expression is minimalist and serene, with simple arched lines for eyes and a tiny red dot for a mouth.

• Hairstyle: She has stylized black vertical lines representing hair/bangs. Notably, she has a topknot (chonmage)style bun on top of her head, accented by a small, bright red decorative bead.

• Body: The body is slender and tapered toward the base, carved from a single piece of light-toned wood.

Attire and Details

• The Kimono: Beneath her outer layer, you can see the etched and painted details of a traditional kimono, including a red obi (sash) with yellow accents.

• The Haori (Overcoat): The most striking feature is the "floating" or three-dimensional dark blue/black overcoat. It is decorated with a white polka-dot pattern, which gives the doll a modern, mid-century aesthetic.

• Floral Accents: Near the base of the wooden body, there are faint, delicately carved or painted flower motifs, likely representing cherry blossoms (sakura).
