Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa (1927-)

This is a hand-carved wooden kokeshi doll by Kazuo Takamizawa. The figure is tall and slender, with softly closed eyes and a serene expression. The natural wood surface is delicately painted with floral motifs in muted reds and blacks, giving it an elegant, understated look. A small topknot detail adds character, reflecting Takamizawa’s refined and poetic style.

Takamizawa-san lives in Maebashi City, in Gunma Prefecture, considered the breathing heart of the  Creative Kokeshi dolls. He is a multiple award winner, including the Prime Minister’s Award.
