The doll features a simple facial expression characterized by a “one-stroke eye” (Hitofude-me). In Japanese Kokeshi art catalogs, the artist refers to this figure as “Budō no ko” — Child of the Martial Arts. One of its most distinctive traits is the slightly offset head adorned with a topknot (Bintsuke). The figure also sports a traditional Chonmage hairstyle — a style once worn by boys and men, marked by a short, blunt fringe at the forehead and neatly cropped hair encircling the head.
Kano Chiyomatsu was born in 1935 and has died, but the year he passed away is unknown. He started making Sosaku dolls around 1953. He has won multiple prizes in his career , including the Prime Minister’s Award twice.
Height: 22cm
