This is a charming Sosaku (Creative) Kokeshi doll, handcrafted from wood with a natural finish. Unlike traditional kokeshi, which have more rigid forms, this "creative" style features a more modern and expressive design.
Key Features
• Design: The doll features a bob-style haircut with a small red bow accessory. Her eyes are closed, giving her a serene and peaceful expression.
• The Body: The cylindrical body is beautifully hand-painted with a scenic landscape.
• The Inscription: The kanji characters on the front read "Lake Hamana" (浜名湖 - Hamanako), which is a large brackish lake in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan.
• Artistic Details: Below the text, there is an illustration of the lake's coastline and a small eel (unagi), which is the most famous local delicacy of the Lake Hamana region.
Kunio Miyagawa was born in 1933. He started creating kokeshi around 1948. Kunio-san has Multiple award behind his name, including the coveted Prime Minister Award.
