A refined creative kokeshi by Sato Suigai, distinguished by its elegant proportions and softly rounded head with a serene, closed-eye expression. The figure features finely carved hair gathered in a topknot, and a delicately painted kimono adorned with floral motifs and a graceful crane design—symbols often associated with longevity and good fortune. The subtle brushwork and balanced composition reflect Suigai’s signature style, blending painterly detail with sculptural simplicity.
Sato Suigai was born in Gunma, Prefecture of Japan in 1920. Started under the wings of his teacher Suiun Komuro at the age of 18. He had received numerous awards including the prestigious Prime minister award. He even had opened his individual exhibition in Odawara city in 1976.
