Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Sato Suigai (1920-) - With box

This lovely Sosaku kokeshi doll by Sato Suigai, featuring a slender cylindrical body made of light wood and hand-painted with delicate red bamboo. The doll has a serene, minimalist face with closed eyes and fine hairline details, topped with a simple rounded headpiece, reflecting a calm and elegant aesthetic.

Sato Suigai was born in Gunma, Prefecture of Japan in 1920. Started under the wings of his teacher Suiun Komuro at the age of 18. He had received numerous awards including the prestigious Prime minister award. He even had opened his individual exhibition in Odawara city in 1976.
