Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Masao Watanabe (1917-2007)

This beautiful kokeshi doll is a creation by the renowned artist Masao Watanabe. Carved from warm-toned natural wood, the striking grain pattern plays a key role in the design. The doll is 'dressed' in a painted black scarf, which is decorated with vibrant red motifs. This scarf is wrapped around the neck and drapes gracefully over the torso, creating a powerful contrast with the wood. The doll features a serene face with delicate slit eyes and a small pink mouth, and wears a simple white headband with side bows.
