This beautiful vintage creative kokeshi doll by Inosuke Kobayashi, features a distinctively carved, rounded bob haircut in a deep black finish that frames a serene, minimalist face with closed eyes. The stout, cylindrical body serves as a canvas for a highly detailed kimono decorated with an intricate, repeating geometric starburst texture etched into the dark wood. Across the attire, striking circular medallions reveal gracefully depicted crane birds intertwined with rich red and golden accents, creating a harmonious and elegant traditional design.
Inosuke was born in 1931 in Gunma prefecture and won multiple awards in his career for his kokeshi dolls, He also won the Prime Minister award in 1979. His dolls are usually tall and elegant featuring natural wood colors combined with colorful kimonos.
