This elegant Japanese creative kokeshi doll, titled "Seiga" (清雅)—meaning "purity and elegance"—was crafted by the renowned award-winning artist Sato Suigai (佐藤翠崖). It features a slender, dark-stained cylindrical body decorated with circular natural-wood medallions containing carved or painted maple leaves, topped with a soft, serene expression, traditional dark bobbed hair, and a topknot. The doll comes with its original wooden box (tomobako), which bears the artist's signature, red Hanko seal, and the piece's title, along with text acknowledging Suigai as a Prime Minister Award-winning artisan and member of the Japan Modern Kokeshi Artists Association.
Sato Suigai was born in Gunma, Prefecture of Japan in 1920. Started under the wings of his teacher Suiun Komuro at the age of 18. He had received numerous awards including the prestigious Prime minister award. He even had opened his individual exhibition in Odawara city in 1976.
