Rare Vintage Sosaku kokeshi set by Hideo Ishihara (1925-1999)

This is a minimalist wooden kokeshi doll by Hideo Ishihara, characterized by its smooth, rounded head and simple cylindrical body. The warm, polished wood grain is left largely unadorned, with only subtle, delicate facial features—closed eyes and a tiny nose—conveying a introspective expression. The design reflects a modern, understated aesthetic while honoring traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

Hideo Ishihara, is a well know Sosaku Kokeshi artist. He was born in Tokyo, and began his career by making Traditional Narugo dolls in 1957. he received more than 60 awards, including the most important off them all the Prime Minister’s Award.
