Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Kato Masami (1925-)

This charming set of traditional-style wooden creative kokeshi dolls (Sousaku Kokeshi) is handcrafted by the artist Kato Masami (加藤正美), titled "Michikusa" (道草), which translates to "wayside grass" or "taking a detour/lingering along the way." The pair consists of a taller and a slightly smaller figure, both featuring natural wood tones, serene painted faces with gentle eyes, simple fringe bangs, and delicate topknots wrapped with colored rings (red and pink). Their bases are accented with subtle hand-painted flower motifs and wavy vine patterns in red, green, and dark brown. The pair comes complete with its original wooden presentation box featuring calligraphy of the title and the artist’s name.
