Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Sato Kouson

This vintage Japanese creative (Sosaku) kokeshi doll is crafted by Sato Kouson (佐藤香村), one of the few prominent female creative kokeshi artists in Japan.

The wooden doll features a gracefully tilted head with closed eyes, soft rosy cheeks, and a gentle expression. Her natural wood body is decorated with hand-painted white chrysanthemums (kiku) and subtle green foliage, carved to resemble a folded kimono. On the back, handwritten Japanese calligraphy (waka poem) adds a poetic touch to the natural finish of the wood.
