Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi made by Miyashita Hajime (1940-)
Vintage Japanese Sosaku kokeshi doll made by master Hajime Miyashita. Very cute girl and lovely decorated with flowers.
Born in Yonezawa City, Iwate, Miyashita-san studied traditional kokeshi making under Yamagata-Sakunami Master artist Kobayashi Kichitaro. He began his Sosaku career in 1959, winning many awards in his career even the Prime Minister’s Award in 1977. He had his own studio that was located in Maebashi City of Gunma Prefecture. But in 2006 his studio took fire and everything was destroyed. After this disaster Miyashita-san deside to retire.
