Each region imparts its own distinct style to the shapes and facial features of its kokeshi, and this Zao-style doll is no exception. Carved from soft, white birch (kabanoki) and entirely hand-painted, it is an unusually elaborate example of the craft. The doll features the classic oversized head and expressive eyes, along with bold, decorative brushstrokes across the front of its kimono. Red roses (akaibara) symbolize passion, while purple (murasaki) represents admiration. A traditional rokoru moyo pattern forms horizontal red and green bands around the neck and shoulders, complemented by varying red stripes near the base of the figure.
Height: 24,5cm
Weight: 330g
