A charming kokeshi doll by Takano Yohachi, characterized by a rounded head and a compact, slightly tapered body. The face is simply and delicately painted with closed eyes and a gentle expression. The kimono features rich, intricate patterns in warm reds, greens, and earthy tones, with detailed floral and seasonal motifs. This decorative style reflects Yohachi’s background in painting and textile design, combining traditional elegance with refined craftsmanship.
Takano Yohachi was born in Nou town in Niigata prefecture and he has loved painting since he was a child. Later he moved to Tokyo, During these years he also mastered the art of Yuzen dyeing which is traditionally used for kimono. After the war he settled in Yuzawa town where he started showing interest in traditional kokeshi dolls and woodworking.
