Rare Vintage Creative Kokeshi By Hiroe Fukushima

This kokeshi doll by Hiroe Fukushima has a distinctive, rounded form with a wide, gently flattened head and a compact, layered body. The warm natural wood tones are accented with deep red and subtle black detailing. The doll wears a broad red hat tied at the top, and its softly painted facial features give it a calm, understated expression. Delicate floral motifs decorate the body, reflecting Fukushima’s creative and expressive sosaku kokeshi style.

Hiroe Fukushima was a Japanese sosaku kokeshi (creative wooden doll) maker active for a relatively short period in the 1970s (approximately 1970–1979).
