Rare vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Kano Chiyomatsu (1935-)

This exquisite Japanese Sosaku (creative) Kokeshi doll, crafted by the renowned artist Kano Chiyomatsu (born 1935), features a unique and elegant egg-shaped wooden form made from natural grain wood. The doll exhibits a minimal, peaceful silhouette with a smooth, warm wood finish. At the apex, a delicate face is finely rendered with simple painted eyes, subtle dark hair strands cascading down the sides, and vibrant red lips that add a soft pop of color.
The body is beautifully adorned with traditional burnt-wood (pyrography) chrysanthemum blossoms (kiku), scattered diagonally across the curved surface. The combination of natural wood tones, dark wood-burned floral motifs, and minimalist facial details reflects Kano Chiyomatsu's masterly balance of serene craftsmanship and organic aesthetics.
