Rare Vintage Sosaku kokeshi set by Hideo Ishihara (1925-1999)

This charming pair of Mother and Child kokeshi by Hideo Ishihara beautifully reflects his refined and minimalist style. Hand-carved from wood, the figures feature rounded heads, cylindrical bodies, and delicately painted faces with small black eyes and subtle red lips.

Their dark, finely painted hair contrasts with the natural wood grain of their bodies. One figure is adorned with a red scarf decorated with colorful patterns, while the other wears a green scarf with complementary motifs. The simple forms, warm wood tones, and vibrant painted details create a harmonious and endearing composition that expresses quiet elegance and craftsmanship.

Hideo Ishihara, is a well know Sosaku Kokeshi artist. He was born in Tokyo, and began his career by making Traditional Narugo dolls in 1957. he received more than 60 awards, including the most important off them all the Prime Minister’s Award.
