Crafted during the mid-to-late 20th century, this rare "creative-style" (Sosaku) wooden doll beautifully fuses two of Japan's most iconic artistic traditions: the elegant woodwork of the Kokeshi and the symbolic power of the Daruma (the traditional talisman of perseverance and luck).

The Daruma Design: The doll depicts Bodhidharma (Daruma in Japan), the founder of Zen Buddhism, with his signature intense gaze, prominent eyebrows, and thick beard. True to folklore, he is depicted without limbs, capturing his legendary nine-year meditation.
Double the Luck: This creative design features a charming, smaller Daruma head stacked neatly on top of the main body.

The "Fuku" Charms: The prominent black kanji character hand-painted on the front of both sections is 福 (Fuku), meaning "Good Fortune," "Blessings," or "Luck"—making this doll a powerful protective charm for your living space.
Authenticity & Provenance:
Artist Signed: The bottom features the authentic hand-written signature 徳作 (Toku-saku), translating to "Made by Toku" (the master artisan behind this piece).
Official Fukushima Heritage: The back preserves its original vintage shield-shaped sticker from the Fukushima Prefecture Tourism Federation, displaying the stamp 推薦 (Suisen) for "Officially Recommended Craft." As part of the Tohoku region, Fukushima is celebrated worldwide as the historic birthplace of Kokeshi doll making.
