Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi by Miyashita Hajime (1940-)

This creative (Sosaku) kokeshi doll by Master Hajime Miyashita, features a beautifully rounded, one-piece oval body crafted from natural wood. The doll portrays a serene expression with minimalist, finely painted facial features nestled beneath sleek black hair. Her elegant kimono is intricately decorated using pyrography and vibrant paints, showcasing a rich pattern of blooming cherry blossoms (sakura) in warm red and orange tones alongside traditional Japanese fan motifs (sensu). The sweeping, curved lines representing the folds of the kimono give the piece a wonderful sense of depth and grace, making it a classic example of Miyashita's signature style.
