A delicate vintage kokeshi doll by Takano Yohachi, featuring a slender cylindrical body and a softly rounded head with a serene, minimalist expression. The figure is hand-painted with fine brushwork, depicting a kimono adorned with floral motifs—likely inspired by nature, such as blossoms and foliage—reflecting Yohachi’s signature style of elegant colors and detailed patterns influenced by traditional Japanese art.
Takano Yohachi was born in Nou town in Niigata prefecture and he has loved painting since he was a child. Later he moved to Tokyo, During these years he also mastered the art of Yuzen dyeing which is traditionally used for kimono. After the war he settled in Yuzawa town where he started showing interest in traditional kokeshi dolls and woodworking.
