Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Toa Sekiguchi (1942-) - Dated 1979

This Japanese creative (Sosaku) kokeshi doll is crafted by the renowned award-winning artisan Toa Sekiguchi (関口東亜). Featuring a tall, slender wooden body, the doll is adorned with hand-painted red camellia (tsubaki) flowers and green leaves set against a rich natural grain, topped with a gentle head and a distinctive carved hair finial. The side and bottom bear calligraphy markings including "Izu Oshima" (伊豆大島) alongside a handwritten date from Showa 54 (August 17, 1979), making it a memorable piece of vintage Japanese folk craft.
