This elegant vintage Creative (Sōsaku) Kokeshi doll is a beautiful creation by the acclaimed master artisan Sato Suigai.
Originally trained as a traditional Japanese painter, Suigai’s artistic background shines through in the doll's serene, minimalist expression and beautifully balanced color palette. Crafted from wood, she features a glossy, stylized bob haircut with a subtle top bun and wears a richly textured teal-green kimono. The garment is meticulously hand-carved and painted with vivid red camellia (tsubaki) flowers, which traditionally symbolize love, longing, and the arrival of spring in Japan.
With its detailed wood engraving and poetic, contemplative vibe, this piece is a wonderful example of mid-century Japanese folk art and a highly sought-after collectible.
