This elegant vintage creative kokeshi doll, crafted by master artisan Takano Yohachi (1907–1994), features a slender, graceful silhouette adorned with a rich, hand-painted Japanese autumn maple leaf (momiji) motif. The detailed brushwork displays a cascading pattern of black, red, and golden-orange maple leaves sweeping across her kimono, set against warm, warm-toned natural wood. Up top, the delicate head highlights finely painted facial features with a peaceful expression and a dark, stylized hairstyle, showcasing the artisan’s signature refine-grained Japanese painting influence.

Takano Yohachi was born in Nou town in Niigata prefecture and he has loved painting since he was a child. Later he moved to Tokyo, During these years he also mastered the art of Yuzen dyeing which is traditionally used for kimono. After the war he settled in Yuzawa town where he started showing interest in traditional kokeshi dolls and woodworking.
