Rare vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Aoki Ryoka (1931-)

This creative Japanese Sosaku (creative) kokeshi doll by renowned master artisan Aoki Ryoka (青木蓼華) is titled "Tsubaki Shoujo" (Camellia Maiden / 椿少女). Crafted from natural wood, the doll features a charming head with playful pigtails tied with a red ribbon and a cheerful, smiling expression. Its sleek body is decorated with a wide black band showcasing hand-painted red and white camellia (tsubaki) flowers with detailed gold outline accents.
The accompanying wooden sign (kifuda) highlights Aoki Ryoka's distinguished status as a recipient of the Prime Minister’s Award (内閣総理大臣賞) and a recognized Master Craftsman of Modern Times (現代の名工). Additionally, a sticker on the back indicates this piece was produced as a 35th-anniversary commemorative item for the Shibukawa Discussion Club (渋川放談会) on December 10, 2013.
