Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Isamu Yamakawa - Mother and child

This handcrafted creative kokeshi doll by renowned artisan Isamu Yamakawa depicts a mother carrying her sleeping child piggyback (ombu style). Crafted from natural wood, the figure features a dark carved kimono tied with a woven rope sash (obi) around the waist. The mother's expressive head is adorned with a distinctive red bow hair accessory, while a small, serene child peeks over her shoulder. Yamakawa’s signature style shines through in the gentle facial features, warm wood tones, and the touching representation of maternal tenderness.
