This charming pair of creative kokeshi (Sosaku Kokeshi) dolls was crafted by the renowned Japanese artist Issetsu Kuribayashi (1922–2011).
The black presentation box features a traditional paper label reading “雪国” (Yukiguni), which translates to “Snow Country”—a nod to the snowy winters of Yamagata Prefecture where the artist worked. Carved into smooth, rounded egg shapes from pale natural wood, the set depicts winter children (Yukimbo) bundled up against the cold. The figures are decorated using delicate pyrography (wood burning) to illustrate traditional straw hats (kasa) and winter capes (mino). Finished with minimalist faces and tiny touches of red, this pair beautifully captures the whimsical, nostalgic warmth of rural Japanese folklore.

Height: 4,5cm and 6,5cm

Weight: 100g

Please look carefully at the pictures to determine the condition of the kokeshi.
