Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Kato Masami

This charming vintage set of Sosaku (creative) kokeshi dolls by Japanese artisan Kato Masami is titled "Sato Warabe" (里わらべ), which translates to "Village Children."

The pair consists of two rounded, egg-shaped wooden figures representing young village children, showcasing smooth, natural wood grain decorated with hand-painted patterns. The slightly larger figure is adorned with a soft pink patterned kimono (kanoko motif) and matching hair ribbon, while the smaller doll features a blue and yellow plaid kimono design. Both dolls have serene, smiling expressions with rosy cheeks and traditional black bobbed hairstyles. The original cardboard box displays the title "Sato Warabe" alongside the artist’s name, Masami Kato (加藤正美作).
