Vintage Gumma Kokeshi by Kazuo Takamizawa (1927-)

This kokeshi doll by Kazuo Takamizawa features a tall, elegantly elongated wooden body with a smooth, natural finish. The figure has a minimalist face with delicately painted, closed eyes and straight black hair framing the head. The body is decorated with stylized red and gold floral motifs connected by fine dotted patterns, creating a sense of flowing movement. Mounted on a simple black base, the piece reflects Takamizawa’s refined craftsmanship and modern interpretation of traditional kokeshi design.

Takamizawa-san lives in Maebashi City, in Gunma Prefecture, considered the center of modern Creative Kokeshi doll making. He is a multiple award winner, including the Prime Minister’s Award.
