Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Keiji Miyawa

This traditional Japanese wooden creative kokeshi doll (sosaku kokeshi) features a charming depiction of a woman carrying a sleeping baby on her back (Komori / babysitter motif). The main figure has expressive, brightly painted facial features, a blue patterned headscarf tied over a topknot adorned with a red floral design, and a dark red kimono decorated with white and pink blossoms above a blue striped base. Resting gently on her left shoulder is the small, serene head of a piggybacked child. The piece is crafted from carved, hand-painted wood with a smooth, glossy finish and comes with its original wooden box featuring Japanese calligraphy and artist seals.
