Vintage Sosaku kokeshi by Sato Suigai (1920-)

This elegant vintage creative kokeshi doll, crafted by the prominent mid-century artisan Sato Suigai (1920–2001), showcases his signature minimalist and sophisticated style, the doll features a tall, slender, and unpainted natural wood body with a beautiful grain. Her round head is defined by delicate, finely painted features—including serene closed eyes, thin eyebrows, and a small red mouth—and is topped with a distinctive, high wooden hair bun (or oshidori style topknot). The doll's minimalist body is accented by a striking, diagonally wrapped obi (sash), This black band is meticulously hand-painted with white and red floral patterns, providing a beautiful contrast to the warm, natural tones of the wood.
