Vintage Sosaku Kokeshi made by Sato Suigai (1920-)

Beautiful kokeshi doll created in the Creative (Sosaku) style.  She wears a lovely black kimono with engraved flowers. 

Sato Suigai was born in Gunma, Prefecture of Japan in 1920. Started under the wings of his teacher Suiun Komuro at the age of 18. He had received numerous awards including the prestigious Prime minister award. He even had opened his individual exhibition in Odawara city in 1976.
